TOPLESS Women’s & Trans Yoga for Breast Cancer Research (Pay What You Can)
Every month, we host a Pay-What-You-Can
Naked! Women's & Trans Yoga class.
On October 17, we’re honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month* with a TOPLESS-ONLY yoga class
to celebrate those with breasts, those who have had breasts, and anyone who has Dealt with
or is currently battling breast cancer.
What’s more, we’ll be donating 50% of the proceeds to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, a nonprofit that devotes its funds to research that studies the causes of breast cancer. It spends 81% of its revenue directly on programs and research, so we’re confident in the effectiveness of this organization’s work.
*We realize that Breast Cancer Awareness Month can be problematic. Many companies sell “pink products” that contain cancer-causing materials. Efforts to “raise awareness” about breast health often don’t provide adequate (or any) education about the issue or cause any real changes in health-related behaviors for prevention. Also, we glorify “beating the disease” and “survival” thereby dismissing those who experience recurrent breast cancer and those who don’t survive. People with breast cancer sometimes report feeling alienated instead of supported by October’s attempt to “slap a pink ribbon on something...and call it a day.”
We want to be sensitive to these concerns by recognizing these issues. Our goal is to take advantage of this widely-recognized movement, using a class that we already host to donate proceeds to an organization that we believe is doing truly effective work to understand breast cancer. As a body-positive organization, we also hope to provide a space where people who currently have or used to have breasts can reconnect with their top half and find compassion for whatever emotions arise. We will also provide printed educational materials about breast health and self-exams.
All ages and body types welcome.
This monthly class is open to anyone who is female-bodied or female-identifying.
This class is specifically open to all women and trans folk, anyone identifying as female, female-bodied, and trans (male or female). We want to create a potentially more comfortable space for those who know, have known, or will know what it's like to walk the earth as a woman. Please make note of this distinction. For anyone who doesn't identify in this way, please come to our all-gender class, the details of which you can find at nakedinmotion.com/events.
Willow will teach a Vinyasa-inspired yoga class followed by an relaxing meditation (about 75-80 minutes total). We will mingle and munch on some treats afterwards.
This class is specifically TOPLESS-ONLY,
so please wear underwear or shorts to class.
This class is a bit different from our regular Naked in Motion classes (where nudity is mandatory but women and trans folk have the option to wear bottoms). We’re using the class as an opportunity to reach new students who may not be comfortable yet in a class where others shed their bottoms. For transgender participants: please make use of anything you require to affirm and support your gender, as we’ll defer to whatever “Naked!” means to you (chest pieces are definitely welcome for this event). Everyone should be an active, willing participant and at least 18 years old.
In the spirit of accessibility and inclusivity, this will be a Pay-What-You-Can class with tiered ticketing options.
The suggested donation is $25, but you can select ticket options as low as $5 and as high as $50 (whatever works for your budget).
There are costs associated to produce the event, space is limited, and we want to be able to give a big donation to the Foundation, so if you have the means, please contribute as much as can.
All events have a 24-hour cancellation policy, so if you cancel less than 24 hours before the event, you forfeit your payment.
*We prefer you pay online via MindBody, but if you need to pay in cash, you must email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a spot pay a cash donation at the door. Space is limited and these events sells out often, so if we're at capacity and you haven't emailed to reserve a spot, we may not be able to accommodate you.

We strongly encourage you to bring your own mats, but we have mats available for rent at $2 each, so if you forget your mat, no worries, we've got you covered. If you do need to rent a mat, YOU MUST BRING A TOWEL.

Event/orientation starts at 7:00pm
Event ends at 9:00pm
Everyone is expected to be on time to class to hear the rules speech (even if you've heard them before). Once we're done explaining the rules, we close and lock the doors so everyone can get undressed. We don't have an official "doors closed" time, but it's about 10-15 minutes after the class start time and correlates to the time when we get naked. Once the door is locked and the sign is on the door, no further entry will be permitted, NO EXCEPTIONS, and we don't give refunds for latecomers. If you knock or disrupt class in an attempt to gain late entry, we will not welcome you to future classes.
About the instructor:
is the owner and founder of Naked in Motion, which offers Naked! Yoga & Pilates classes in NYC and Boston. She is a yoga teacher and fully-certified Pilates apparatus instructor, and her movement training includes over 20 years of classical ballet and jazz and is influenced by a decade of theatre performance. Willow will be teaching the Naked! Yoga portion of the workshop.
